Type 1 Diabetes Symptoms

Type 1 diabetes is also known as Diabetes Mellitus and Juvenile Onset Diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is when the body has attacked the pancreas, which contains the cells that produce the hormone called insulin. When the body does this, its natural ability to produce its own insulin is taken away; therefore, requiring the use of insulin injections usually for the remainder of their life.

diabetes symptoms Type 1 Diabetes Symptoms

Insulin injections will be required at each meal time and at bed time. Most Type 1 diabetics take approximately 3-4 insulin injections per day. Diabetes Mellitus is a very serious condition and you will want to receive treatment as soon as you possibly can if you feel as if though you may be a diabetic.

Symptoms- Type 1 Diabetes Symptoms include:

1. Excessive thirst
2. Excessive urination. Really pay attention to see whether you are waking up in the middle of the night to use the restroom.

This can definitely be a tell-tell sign of diabetes.
3. Abdominal pain
4. Fatigue
5. Weight loss. Because the body is unable to use the energy that is being consumed and the sugar is staying in the blood stream, your body will begin to burn energy that it has stored in the form of fat. This is why you will experience weight loss even though you may still have a normal appetite or have not changed your diet.
6. Absence of menstruation
7. Nausea
8. Vomiting

Diabetes affects each patient in different ways. If you look in the various publications that are available about diabetes there are actually many different symptoms. Just because one patient may experience one symptom does not mean that the same symptom will be prevalent in another patient.

The above 8 symptoms are just the common symptoms that are experienced by Type 1 diabetic patients.

These are the symptoms that are usually seen and can be associated with Type 1 diabetes more so than any other symptom.

Keep in mind that you could experience more than one of these symptoms and the symptoms could take a period of time to develop. In other words, you could experience the increased thirst symptom and then a month later start experiencing the excessive urination.

This means that you have basically been diabetic for a month without receiving medical treatment and this can lead to a dangerous situation. So, to be safe, when you start experiencing the first symptom of Type 1 diabetes you need to inform your physician as soon as possible so that they can schedule a glucose tolerance test to accurately determine whether you are a diabetic or not.

Do not automatically assume that one of these symptoms is related to something else. The truth is you may never know. You must inform your physician as soon as possible because if left untreated, blood glucose levels will continue to rise which can result in a diabetic coma, ketoacidosis and possibly even death. Diabetes is a serious condition and should be taken seriously and treated as soon as possible.

Female sexuality and Viagra

Why should this pill concern women at all?

Women experience hormonal fluctuations when they go through menopause and this reduces their desire to have sex along with a dramatic drop in libido. All this is absolutely natural and a part of a woman’s life. So how does Viagra or impotence affect them at all? A recent study shows that along with men, Viagra also impacts women’s lives in a big way. Let us have a look how this happens.

This drug, along with being promoted to impotent men, is also marketed to ageing men whose partners are going through menopause. Biologically speaking, these women want less but their partners want more sex. This counter-intuitive situation might turn the house into a big war zone at a time when the female partner is already vulnerable.

Viagra helps men achieve quick and strong erections. Men taking Viagra pills are known to spend more time on foreplay, thus engaging the female partner from the beginning to the point of satisfaction. Because of Viagra, menopausal women are happy and more satisfied than before. This leads to happy marriages and stronger relationships. Men use this drug not only to sexually satisfy themselves and their partner but also because better sex leads to more intimacy.

Sildenafil is commercially sold as Viagra. It is manufactured by Pfizer, a pharmaceutical giant. All you have to do is take a pill before an hour of sexual intercourse with a full glass of water and have a satisfactory sexual intercourse. So in a way, Viagra does affect female sexuality. It makes men happy and women happier.

OVARIAN CANCER TREATMENT IN INDIA AT MUMBAI AT LOW PRICE

ovarian cancer 6443560 OVARIAN CANCER TREATMENT IN INDIA AT MUMBAI AT LOW PRICE

It is a disease produced by the rapid growth and division of cells within one or both ovaries-reproductive glands in which the ova, or eggs, and the female sex hormones are made. The ovaries contain cells that, under normal circumstances, reproduce to maintain tissue health. When growth control is lost and cells divide too much and too fast, a cellular mass or tumor is formed. If the tumor is confined to a few cell layers, for example, surface cells, and it does not invade surrounding tissues or organs, it is considered benign. If the tumor spreads to surrounding tissues or organs, it is considered malignant, or cancerous. When cancerous cells break away from the original tumor, travel through the blood or lymphatic vessels, and grow within other parts of the body, the process is known as metastasis.

Ovarian cancer is not a single disease. There are actually more than 30 types and subtypes of ovarian malignancies, each with its own histopathologic (diseased tissue) appearance and biologic behavior.

Causes of OVARIAN CANCER

The exact cause of ovarian cancer isn’t known. It’s more common in women who live in developed countries. Other factors that are thought to make ovarian cancer more likely include: • a family history of ovarian cancer – women who have two or more close relatives (mother, sister or daughter) with ovarian cancer are more at risk.• having a non-cancerous condition called endometriosis.• starting your period early and having the menopause late.

More research is needed to find out whether the risk of ovarian cancer is increased by : -• having fertility treatment.• having hormone replacement therapy (HRT).• being overweight or obese.

Studies have shown that ovarian cancer may be less common in women who : -• have used the contraceptive pill. • have had children. • have breastfed their children. • have had a hysterectomy.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer

Most women with early-stage cancer of the ovary don’t have any symptoms for a long time. When symptoms occur they may include any of the following : -1. loss of appetite.2. vague indigestion, nausea, excess gas (wind) and a bloated, full feeling.3. unexplained weight gain.4. swelling in the abdomen – this may be due to a build up of fluid, known as ascites, which can cause shortness of breath.5. pain in the lower abdomen.6. changes in bowel or bladder habits, such as constipation, diarrhoea or needing to pass urine more often.7. lower back pain.8. pain during sex.9. abnormal vaginal bleeding, although this is rare.

DIAGNOSIS OF OVARIAN CANCER

1. Pelvic exam (for Ovarian Cancer) includes feeling the uterus, vagina, ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, and rectum to find any abnormality in their shape or size. (A Pap test, a good test for cancer of the cervix, is often done along with the pelvic exam, but it is not a reliable way to find or diagnose ovarian cancer.)2. Ultrasound refers to the use of high-frequency sound waves. These waves, which cannot be heard by humans, are aimed at the ovaries. The pattern of the echoes they produce creates a picture called a sonogram. Healthy tissues, fluid-filled cysts, and tumors look different on this picture.3. CA-125 assay (for Ovarian Cancer) is a blood test used to measure the level of CA-125, a tumor marker that is often found in higher-than-normal amounts in the blood of women with ovarian cancer.4. Lower GI series, or barium enema, is a series of x-rays of the colon and rectum. The pictures are taken after the patient is given an enema with a white, chalky solution containing barium. The barium outlines the colon and rectum on the x-ray, making tumors or other abnormal areas easier to see.5. CT (or CAT) scan is a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body created by a computer linked to an x-ray machine.6. Biopsy is the removal of tissue for examination under a microscope. A pathologist studies the tissue to make a diagnosis . To obtain the tissue, the surgeon performs a laparotomy (an operation to open the abdomen). If cancer is suspected, the surgeon performs an oophorectomy (removal of the entire ovary). This is important because, if cancer is present, removing just a sample of tissue by cutting through the outer layer of the ovary could allow cancer cells to escape and cause the disease to spread.7. If the diagnosis is ovarian cancer, the doctor will want to learn the stage (or extent) of disease. Staging is a careful attempt to find out whether the cancer has spread and, if so, to what parts of the body. Staging may involve surgery, x-rays and other imaging procedures, and lab tests. Knowing the stage of the disease helps the doctor plan treatment.

TREATMENT OF OVARIAN CANCER in India

Treatment There are three main forms of treatment for ovarian cancer offered in India : -1. Surgery to remove cancerous tissue.2. Chemotherapy to destroy cancer cells using strong anti-cancer drugs. 3. Radiotherapy to destroy cancer cells by high-energy radiation exposure.

There are also many combinations of these treatment methods and it is usually worthwhile to get a second opinion about treatment before entering into a specific program. Treatment depends upon a number of factors (e.g., stage and grade of the disease, the histopathologic type, and the patient’s age and overall health).

Surgery for Ovarian Cancer in India

Surgery usually is required to treat ovarian cancer. Most patients undergo surgery in addition to another form of treatment (e.g., chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy). Surgery helps the physician to accurately stage the tumor, make a diagnosis, and perform debulking (removal of as much tumor mass as possible). Debulking surgery is especially important in ovarian cancer because aggressive removal of cancerous tissue is associated with improved survival. Patients with no residual tumor mass, or tumor masses that measure less than 1 cm, have the best opportunity for cure.

The surgeon usually performs a laparotomy (through an abdominal incision) or laparoscopy (using a tube containing a light and camera that is inserted into the pelvic cavity through a small incision). A sample of the tumor (called a frozen section) is examined immediately under a microscope to confirm ovarian cancer and rule out metastasis from another site. If the cancer is a metastasis from another organ, the surgeon searches for the primary tumor within the abdominal cavity.

Once ovarian cancer is confirmed, a total hysterectomy (removal of the uterus [womb], bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of the fallopian tubes and ovaries on both sides), omentectomy (removal of the fatty tissue that covers the bowels), lymphadenectomy (removal of one or more lymph nodes) may be performed. Tissue removed during debulking is sent for histopathological examination.

Chemotherapy for Ovarian Cancer in India

Chemotherapy involves using drugs to destroy cancer cells. Many of these drugs destroy cancer cells by preventing them from growing and dividing rapidly. Unfortunately, many normal cells also divide rapidly and are damaged by chemotherapy.

Radiation for Ovarian Cancer in India

Radiotherapy may be used to kill cancer cells from a cyst that ruptures during surgical removal of an ovary, or it may be used to treat certain patients who appear cancer-free or who have only microscopic evidence of disease at second-look surgery. It is historically the treatment of choice for germ cell tumors known as dysgerminomas. However, recently it has been found that chemotherapy can cure a percentage of such patients. What Causes Ulcerative Colitis?

Ulcerative colitis, often referred to as UC, is a chronic autoimmune disease. The symptoms of ulcerative colitis include frequent bowel movements, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. UC can resemble the flu, making it difficult for most people to realize that they have the disease. There are about 500,000 patients within the United States diagnosed with the disease. The age group of 15 to 25 and individuals within their 50s represent most diagnosed patients, with women having the disease more often then men.

Causes

A cause for the disease has not been pinpointed. Although deficiencies in the immune system have been noted, there is not a consensus from medical professionals that the deficiencies are the cause. Other causes may be diet or stress, but there has been no conclusive study to link them to UC. It may also be caused by some sort of food sensitivities or infection if there is a genetic indicator for the disease.

Treatment

Most of the time, the symptoms do not warrant a significant treatment, and people can live without medications. If symptoms become moderate or severe, medication is usually the first treatment. Depending on severity, medication may be provided to alleviate the diarrhea and abdominal pain. If the symptoms are more severe, antibiotics may be used as well. Surgery may also be a solution if the medication is not an adequate solution. During surgery, the infected tissue in the small intestine is removed. Surgery is rare, as medication is usually successful if it is needed at all.

Maintenance

Regular doctor visits are needed to help manage the disease. A proper diet is also necessary. Calorie intake, protein, and other nutrients need to come from the many different food groups. The use of bacteria-based supplements is currently being studied to see if they may help to control the diet. It is especially important for a diet to be followed, as UC can be unpredictable.

The prognosis for patients suffering from UC is good. Many people live normal lives with very few, if any, activity restrictions. More attention may need to be paid to their medical needs, but the condition does not need to affect ones life negatively. Small changes in routine and activity are generally enough to keep most s symptoms in check. Carrying extra supplies, like underwear and toilet paper, is often helpful. UC does not have to change the life of the patient; a normal life is easy to have with this disease.

Vaccinating Children

Vaccines are such a hot topic these days and one that causes moms to question what the “right” decision is. Should I vaccinate or not? How do I make the right decision for my children?

I know, I’m a mom, and it’s on my mind too.

There are medical professionals out there who will tell you (whether you ask their opinion or not) all the reasons you should vaccinate, including the health risks if you don’t and all the research to prove it.

There are other medical professionals who are on the fence about vaccinating using the current schedule (administering multiple vaccines at the same time).

Then there are many chiropractors and alternative healers who are advocates for not vaccinating their children. Their kids attend school (I’m talking about NY), are healthy and they have the documentation and research to prove that vaccines are harmful to your child’s health.

Who’s right? That is a question for the ages and one that I’m not sure has a definite answer.

What is MOST important is what YOU think is right for your child.

DO the research, ASK your pediatrician, TALK with other moms and MAKE your decision. Then feel good about your decision. That is what is most important at the end of the day. Feel good and stand confidently behind your decision.

Here’s a few resources I’ve found very helpful. If you have your own please share them with others who are seeking to better understand (by posting on mommy chat forum-see below).

HIV reservoirs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

From the Saint Martin HIV Reservoirs Workshop to the Vienna International AIDS Society HIV Reservoirs Workshop back to the Saint Martin HIV reservoirs workshop!

HIV Reservoirs Workshop

From 2003 to 2009 we have organized in Saint Martin the Reference Workshop on HIV Reservoirs, HIV Persistence and HIV Eradication Strategies. Every 2 year in December, this HIV workshop has attracted researchers and clinicians from all around the world involved in HIV reservoirs research. Since its beginning, the HIV reservoir workshop principles were to bring together scientists working in different areas, from the fundamental basic science laboratories to the clinical care departments, the so called ‘bench to bedside’ approach.

Consequently, only Doctors having submitted an abstract to the HIV reservoir workshop were allowed to sign up.

Towards a Cure IAS HIV Reservoirs Workshop

Mid 2010, we were pleased to participate to the First International AIDS Society (IAS) HIV Reservoirs pre-conference workshop in Vienna. The format was quite the same, although participants of the IAS HIV Reservoirs workshop were on invitation only. There was also a Professional Development Workshop that took place during the IAS World AIDS Conference the following week.IAS involvement in the field of HIV reservoirs is, for us, a proof of the importance of the topic of HIV reservoirs and a recognition of the difficult work we did. Actually, when we launched the First Saint Martin HIV reservoirs workshop in 2003 we felt quite alone (a ‘handful’ of researchers) as agencies and firms were not that much interested by the topic!

HIV Workshop in Saint Martin in December 2011

Research is now moving quickly in the HIV reservoirs field. For about 2 years, HIV cure is no longer a forbidden word and several groups try to get a ‘functional cure’, allowing a drug-free HIV remission.

Consequently, we are eagerly waiting the 5th edition of the HIV Reservoirs Saint Martin workshop in December 2011; once again, we will invest all our energy to make this event the scientific reference on HIV reservoirs.
